Ardbeg Distillery

Ardbeg is a distillery on the south coast of Islay. The first record of a distillery at the site was in 1794, but the current distillery was founded in 1815 by John MacDougall. It initially mainly produced whisky for blends, but gained renown as a single malt, too. Hiram Walker closed the distillery in March 1981. Production restarted in 1989 on a limited basis. Ardbeg was sold to Glenmorangie in 1997, who fully reopened the distillery.
