Chinese Whisky

Chinese Whisky is a relatively new venture, and accounts for only a tiny percentage of liquor sales. The traditional drink of China is Baijiu, an ancient, clear spirit usually distilled from fermented sorghum. Other grains can be used, such as rice, wheat or barley. Baijiu is the world’s bestselling liquor, with more Baijiu sold in 2018 than whisky, vodka, gin, rum and tequila combined! But Chinese Whisky is starting to take off now, with major players like Pernod Ricard and Diageo investing in distilleries there. There are at least a dozen different distilleries in China these days, with a growing middle class driving demand for Chinese Whisky.
