Coleburn Distillery

Coleburn was founded in 1897 by the blender Robertson & Sons. Its building, near the city of Elgin, was designed by the renowned distillery architect Charles Doig. Coleburn was more famous for its experimental work with new production techniques than its single malts. The distillery mostly produced whisky for J&G Stewart’s Usher’s blend and Johnnie Walker Red Label, and single malt bottlings are increasingly rare since the distillery was mothballed in March 1985. The first official bottling was released in 2000 for Diageo’s Rare Malts series, and you will occasionally find some independent bottlings.
