Dominican Rum

In the Dominican Republic rum isn’t just a drink, it’s a way of life. The first Caribbean Rums started appearing around the 1620s when molasses was fermented into alcohol. This early drink was described in a document from Barbados as “a hot, hellish and terrible liquor.” Other names for this early drink include Kill-Devil and Demon Water. Thankfully Dominican Rum has improved a lot since then! Dominican Rum first appeared around 1852 when the Bermudez distillery was established. The brand is still going strong today, along with other brands such as Brugal and Ron Barceló. Dominican Rum is typically delicate with a creamy texture and Brugal is a great exemplar of this style.
