English Whisky

English Whisky has long stood in the towering shadow of Scotch whisky, although there is evidence of English distilleries making grain and malt whisky during the 19th century. This tradition ceased in 1905 though when the last English whisky distillery, Lea Valley, closed. Since then, all was quiet on the English whisky front until 2005. That year, the English Whisky Co. Ltd was registered as the first whisky distillery in England for over 100 years. Now there are around 26 distilleries across England either completely up and running or in development. Many take their names from the region they are produced in, such as The Lakes, Cotswolds and Spirit of Yorkshire.
