German Whisky

While Germany is mostly known for its outstanding beers, the country has seen a great rise in whisky production over the past couple of decades. Starting in the 1990s, German whisky distilleries have been popping up all over the country. The styles produced here resemble those made in Scotland, Ireland and the United States such as single malts, ryes, blends and bourbon-like styles. Famous producers include the organic distillery Hausbrauerei Altstadthof; St. Kilian Distillers, founded in 2014; and the Blackwood distillery, which has been making wheat whiskies since the 1980s.
