Glen Mhor Distillery

Glen Mhor is a former Highland distillery. It was founded in 1892 by the blenders John Birnie and James Mackinlay. In 1954, Glen Mhor was the first distillery to use a Saladin box instead of the traditional floor maltings. Glen Mhor was bought by the Distillers Company Limited in 1972. The distillery closed in 1983 and was demolished five years later. Glen Mhor was one of the last three distilleries in Inverness. When Glen Albyn and Millburn also closed a couple of years later, the capital of the Highlands had no distilleries left. Bottlings of Glen Mhor single malt are becoming increasingly rare, only seeing the occasional release from independent bottlers such as Signatory Vintage and Gordon & MacPhail.
