Glen Moray Distillery

Glen Moray was founded in 1897 on the site of the older Elgin West Brewery. It is located just outside Elgin, one of the oldest towns in the Speyside region. The distillery closed in 1910 due to financial troubles and was put up for sale. It was bought in 1923 by Macdonald & Muir, owners of the Glenmorangie distillery. In 1958, the distillery’s traditional floor maltings were replaced by a Saladin box. The distillery’s own maltings operated until 1978. Glen Moray was sold to the French spirits group La Martiniquaise in 2008. From the start, Glen Moray has used a wide variety of casks – a rare practice at the time. It was also one of the first distilleries to finish its whisky in wine casks.
