Glenglassaugh Distillery

The Glenglassaugh distillery was founded in 1875 by local entrepreneur James Moir and his two nephews, Alexander and William Morrison. After both James and William passed away, the distillery was sold to the Highland Distilleries Company. Glenglassaugh closed in 1908. It reopened in 1931, only to close again five years later. In 1957, the distillery underwent a large renovation and the production capacity was doubled. Glenglassaugh reopened in 1960 and ran successfully for several years. However, the distillery was one of the many victims of the Scotch industry’s decline in the 1980s and it was mothballed in 1986. Glenglassaugh stayed silent until it was bought by the Scaent Group, who restarted production in November 2008. The distillery was sold to The BenRiach Distillery Company in March 2013.
