Grenadian Rum

Grenada is also known as the Island of Spice because of its production of nutmeg and mace crops, as well as other spices like ginger, cloves and cinnamon. It even has a little nutmeg on its flag. But as well as spices, Grenada has the perfect climate to grow sugar cane and so it’s no surprise that a Grenadian Rum industry has grown on the island too. Back in 1823 it was estimated that the island was producing 1.2 million gallons of Grenada Rum! The River Antione distillery is the oldest distillery still in operation, where a water wheel is still used to crush the cane. Other brands include Clarke’s Court Rum, Canne Royale rums and Plantation Westerhall rum.
