Holy Distillery

Taiwan is the new kid on the block when it comes to distilling whisky. Despite being the world’s third largest market for single malt whisky, the country’s first private distillery, Kavalan, only opened in 2005: the Taiwanese government had a monopoly on producing alcohol between 1947 and 2002. In 2016, Alex Chang founded the Holy Distillery on the outskirts of Taipei. This experimental distillery uses a copper steam-heated hybrid still to produce a wide variety of beverages, including whisky, gin, rum and plum liqueur. This way, Alex Chang hopes to share the unique flavours of Taiwan with the world.
