Indiana is well known for its varieties of rye whiskey. In fact, in 2021 Indiana legislated a definition of what could legally be called Indiana Rye Whisky to help establish the market properly and differentiate it from products in Kentucky. The first ever record of American whiskey comes from 1640 and you guessed it, it was a rye whiskey. This style is seeing a real resurgence in popularity these days, with Indiana brands like Ross & Squib, Templeton, Hard Truth and Starlight. The giant MGP of Indiana also produces oceans worth of whiskey bottled under as many as 50 different brand names. There are also Indiana bourbons on the market such as George Remus, Just Whiskey Bourbon Whiskey and Third Time Bourbon.
