Islands

The Islands region is actually considered to be part of the Highland Region under the Scotch Whisky Regulations, however many people feel that it constitutes its own region. This includes the islands of Arran, Jura, Lewis, Mull, Orkney, Shetland and Skye. Besides their remote location and rugged landscape, the whiskies produced throughout the Islands region have little in common with each other. Many of them are influenced by the sea with salty flavours, but it’s not a rule of thumb. You’ll find smoky drams from Talisker but sweeter flavours of honey and heather in a drop of Highland Park. Jura is a little bit in the middle with nutty flavours while Tobermory shows fruity qualities. The region is characterised by its diversity which makes it an absolute delight to explore. Drinking your way through the Islands region is certainly never boring.
