Knappogue Castle Distillery

The Knappogue Castle brand was introduced in 1966 by Mark Edwin Andrews, who had amassed a large collection of rare single malt Irish whiskey while renovating his newly-purchased castle. The historic Knappogue Castle in County Clare was built in 1467 by Clan MacNamara. Mark Andrews privately bottled his whiskey under the Knappogue Castle name. The bottling company was taken over by his son Mark Edwin Andrews III, who established Great Spirits LLC in 1998. Great Spirits merged with Castle Brands Inc in 2003. Knappogue Castle sources its whiskey from other distilleries, including Cooley and Bushmills.
