Medley Distillery

The Medley family has a long history of producing premium bourbon. Around 1800, John Medley VI started distilling whiskey on a farm in Washington County, Kentucky. His family continued running the business for many years. George Medley moved the company to Owensboro in 1901, where he purchased the Daviess County Distillery together with his son Thomas. The distillery closed during Prohibition, but when Prohibition was repealed in 1933, Thomas Medley reopened the distillery and reintroduced the Medley brand. After his death, his five sons (‘The Medley Bros’) inherited the company. Together, they established the Medley Distilling Company in 1940 and started distilling at the rebuilt Green River Distillery. The old Medley distillery is now in the hands of the Terressentia Corporation, while 7th and 8th generation Medleys Charles and Sam produce the Medley Brothers brand with sourced whiskey, keeping their family’s legacy alive.
