Miltonduff Distillery

The Miltonduff Distillery, originally named the Milton Distillery, started out as an illicit farm distillery. In 1824, the founders Andrew Peary and Robert Bain obtained a license to legally distill whisky. The distillery was renamed Miltonduff after the owners of the estate, the Duff family. The distillery was bought by William Stuart in 1866, who was joined by Thomas Yool & Company in 1895. A couple of years later, Yool took over ownership of the company completely. Miltonduff was sold to Hiram Walker in 1936. Between 1964 and 1981, a single malt called Mosstowie was also produced on the site using a pair of Lomond stills. Allied Domecq acquired Hiram Walker in 1987, and in 2005 Allied Domecq merged with Pernod Ricard. With a production capacity of 5.5 million liters, Miltonduff is one of Pernod Ricard’s largest distilleries.
