Old Charter Distillery

The Old Charter brand was created in 1874 by the brothers Adam and Benjamin Chapeze, who named it after the Charter Oak, a large white oak tree that grew on Wyllys Hyll in Hartford, Connecticut from about the 12th century until 1856, when it fell down during a violent storm. The name pays homage to the important role that white oak barrels play in the making of bourbon.
