Old Taylor Distillery

In 1887, Colonel Edmund Haynes Taylor Jr. built a new distillery near Frankfort, Kentucky. Inspired by European architecture, the building was made to resemble a medieval castle and was intended to be a tourism attraction from the start. The Old Taylor Distillery became both the birthplace of bourbon tourism and the place where Colonel Taylor revolutionized the bourbon industry. The distillery fell into disuse and was abandoned in 1972. In 2014, the Castle & Key team renovated the distillery and the first spirit flowed off the stills in 2016.
