This incredibly rare first edition of the A.H. Hirsch Reserve 16 Years Old, which has achieved a nearly mythical status, was bottled in 1991 in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. The story of A.H. Hirsch Reserve starts in Spring 1974. This is when Adolph Hirsch, a former Schenley executive, commissioned a 400-barrel batch of whiskey at the Pennco Distillery (currently known as Michter’s). When Pennco went bankrupt in 1990, the now 16-year-old bourbon had not been put to use yet. Part of the bourbon was transferred into steel tanks, and the remaining stock was allowed to mature further. Hirsch sold his whiskey to the Hue Family from Kentucky, who had Julian Van Winkle III bottle the brand. The most prevalent releases of the A.H. Hirsch Reserve 16 Years Old come from the 2000s, but this legendary Blue Wax bottle is part of a very small segment that was already bottled in 1991. Its dramatic history and reputation as being one of the finest bourbons ever made make it exceptionally collectible.
