We never paid too much attention to this Alberta Springs Canadian Sipping Rye Whisky from 1980. Sure, it looks very pretty in its wooden display case, but did we ever stop to really admire it in its full beauty? Oh, how the tables have turned! This Alberta Springs is the ancestor of a true winner, as whisky author Jim Murray awarded the Alberta Premium Cask Strength as ‘World Whisky of the Year’ in his 2020 Whisky Bible. So… a Canadian wins… yet again! Not everyone agreed with Murray’s selection in 2016, when he crowned Canada’s Crown Royal Rye Whisky. We have never tasted Alberta Springs before, but this will change soon. Alberta Distillers is a real rye powehouse that’s been around for decades, providing rye spirit for Whistlepig and and Masterson’s. Did you get the chance to taste the Alberta Premium Cask Strength yet? We’d love to know your thoughts about the 2020 Whisky Bible results. In the meantime, why not take a second glance at this beauty from 1980?
