Angel’s Envy 2020 Port Wine Finish Cask Strength is a small-batch whiskey released in November 2020. The port-finished cask strength whiskey has been released annually since 2012, but 2020 marks the first time that the release is available in all 50 states in the US. The whiskey is first aged in new charred American oak barrels for up to 6 years, before being finished in ruby port wine casks for an additional 3 to 6 months. It is blended in small batches of 8 to 12 barrels at a time and bottled at a barrel strength of 120.4 proof. Angel’s Envy was founded by Wes Henderson, the son of late bourbon legend Lincoln Henderson. The first Angel’s Envy bottling was released in 2011. In early 2015, the company was acquired by Bacardi. Their new distillery, the Louisville Distilling Company, opened in November 2016. The brand’s name is a reference to the concept of angel’s share, the amount of spirit that evaporates during the maturation process. The whiskey that’s left is truly worthy of envy. Only 17,400 bottles of Angel’s Envy 2020 Port Wine Finish Cask Strength have been released.
