Ardbeg Dark Cove is said to be the darkest Ardbeg ever. It matured in ex-bourbon and dark sherry casks, imparting deep notes of treacle toffee, coal tar, squid ink noodles and toasted coffee grounds. The limited-edition single malt was created for Ardbeg Day 2016, and pays homage to Islay’s history of illicit whisky distillation. The rugged coast where the Ardbeg Distillery is located today was particularly notorious as a hideout for smugglers. This special edition, bottled at 55% instead of the regular 46.5%, was released exclusively for the Ardbeg Committee.
