Ardbeg Limited 1977 Edition is a pretty darn rare Ardbeg single malt, distilled in 1977. The 1977 expression was released in small batches between 2001 and 2004. The Ardbeg distillery is located on the south coast of the Scottish island of Islay. The first record of a distillery at the site was in 1794, but the current distillery was founded in 1815 by John MacDougall. It initially mainly produced whisky for blends, but gained renown as a single malt, too. Hiram Walker closed the distillery in March 1981. Production restarted in 1989 on a limited basis. Ardbeg was sold to Glenmorangie in 1997, who fully reopened the distillery. Only 2400 bottles of Ardbeg Limited 1977 Edition have been released.
