Between 2004 and 2008, Ardbeg released the Path to Peaty Maturity series leading up to the first bottling of the revived 10 Years Old expression. Ardbeg Still Young 2nd Release 1998 is another step along this peaty road. The single malt was distilled in 1998, not long after the Ardbeg distillery reopened, and aged for 8 years before being bottled in August 2006 at 56.2%. The first record of whisky distillation on the south coast of Islay comes from 1794, and in 1815 Ardbeg was officially established. The distillery initially mainly produced whisky for blends, and only recently gained renown for its single malts. In March 1981, Hiram Walker closed the distillery. Production resumed on a limited basis in 1989, but it wasn’t until Glenmorangie took over in 1997 that the distillery fully reopened.
