With a PPM of 100, this peaty dram will send you straight into outer space! Launched in 2009, Supernova is the peatiest single malt produced by Ardbeg. Ardbeg Supernova was released in September 2014, to coincide with the return to Earth of Ardbeg’s space experiment. An experiment that would research the effects of maturing whisky in zero gravity. The 2014 edition of Supernova was partially matured in ex-sherry casks, adding extra dimensions of richness, spiciness and sweetness. The whisky is big and powerful with aromas of lemon zest, pear, lemongrass, pine needles, wax, brine, flint, peppermint and aromatic smoke on the nose. The palate brings a gentle warmth before becoming more intense with medicinal notes of peppermint and antiseptic lozenges around a peaty core. Hints of liquorice, dark chocolate, brine and wood smoke then develop. The finish is long with lingering smoke, dark chocolate, tobacco, menthol and liquorice. Just 3000 bottles were released exclusively for members of the Ardbeg Committee.
