Ardmore’s story goes back to 1898 when it was founded by Adam Teacher. Adam was the son of Willian Teacher, who founded the famous Teacher’s Whisky. Obviously Old Man Teacher did as his name suggests and taught young Adam a thing or two about fine whisky making. Ardmore was one of the last distilleries to use traditional coal furnaces to heat their stills. In 2002, they switched to indirect heating through steam. In order not to lose the coal fires’ unique effect on the spirit, the new steam coils were designed with special kinks to replicate the old hot spots. Ardmore 31 Years Old Hunter Laing Old & Rare 1988 is brought to us by Hunter Laing as part of their Old & Rare series. It has a light sprinkle of coal dust on the nose, alongside raspberry and leather. The palate is oily and fruity with a peppery finish. As this is a single cask bottling, only 272 bottles were released making this Old & Rare pretty darn rare. Please note: because of the gorgeous and large giftbox, it takes up two spaces in a parcel.
