The Arran Distillery was founded in 1994 by Harold Currie, former managing director of Chivas Brothers. During construction of the distillery, however, a pair of golden eagles began building their nest on a cliff near the distillery. Because golden eagles are a protected species, the construction had to be delayed and it wasn’t until August 1995 that the first spirit ran off the stills at Arran. Ever since, each bottle of Arran single malt features the golden eagles. The fourth and final release in the Icons of Arran series is dedicated to these majestic birds. Arran 12 Years Old The Golden Eagle 1999 was drawn from a total of 21 casks: 14 bourbon barrels and 7 sherry hogsheads, distilled in 1999 and bottled in 2012. It saw a limited release of 6000 bottles.
