The Isle of Arran was once home to over fifty illicit whisky distilleries. When the only legal distillery closed in 1837, the island remained whiskyless for over 150 years. Harold Currie founded the Arran distillery in 1993, and the tradition of whisky distillation was finally brought back to the island. Arran 25 Years Old Single Cask LMDW 1996 Cask #892 is a single cask Arran, bottled for La Maison du Whisky’s Antipodes Collection. The whisky was distilled in August 1996, making this an early vintage from the relatively new distillery. It matured for 25 years in sherry hogshead #892, and was bottled in July 2022 at 51.5%. Only 268 bottles were produced. Arran 25 Years Old Single Cask LMDW 1996 Cask #892 has a refined nose with a mineral note of slate and aromas of cherries, ripe strawberries, toffee, prunes, candied apricots and heady flowers, developing into cocoa bean, candied chestnut, leather, cardamom seeds, lime zest, honey and herbs. The palate is full-bodied and lively with layers of polish, chocolate, flowers and spices, followed by walnuts, almonds, rose petals and pomegranates. The finish is long with caramel, blackcurrants, tropical fruits and delicate floral hints.
