Legend has it that one day, in a fit of anger, the devil punched out the side of a mountain on the rugged isle of Arran forming the punch bowl that gives this whisky its name. Located nearby in Lochranza, Arran’s distillery began production almost 25 years ago and is one of a few independent distilleries in Scotland. Drawing its water from Loch Na Davie, this limited release of only 6660 bottles was aged in bourbon barrels and sherry butts. It has notes of dried fruits, vanilla and spiced wood on the nose. The palate is warm and full-bodied with hints of prunes, apricots and nutmeg. A sweet finish follows, with a touch of smoke to round off. A whisky as charming as the devil himself!
