Balblair Vintage 1991 is the third 1991 release in Balblair’s Vintage range. The whisky initially matured in ex-bourbon casks for 24 years, before being transferred to first-fill sherry butts. After a total maturation of 27 years, the whisky was bottled in 2018 at 46%. Balblair Vintage 1991 is a full-bodied single malt with sweet and fruity flavours of citrus, vanilla, caramel, orange and rich chocolate. The Highland distillery Balblair is one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland. It was officially founded in 1790, but it is believed that illicit distilling had been taking place on the site for decades before that. The distillery was founded by James McKeddy, and taken over by John Ross in the same year. It subsequently stayed in the hands of the Ross family for over a hundred years. The distillery was sold to its current owners, Inver House Distillers, in 1996.
