At Balvenie, they value tradition. The distillery still grows its own barley, which it malts in its own traditional floor maltings. It also has a coppersmith and a team of coopers on site to tend to the casks and stills. Balvenie’s master blender is the legendary David C. Stewart, who started working at the distillery in 1962 and became Malt Master in 1974. He still holds the position today, making him the longest-serving malt master in the entire Scotch whisky industry. For the Balvenie 30 Years Old, David Stewart married exceptional traditional oak casks and Oloroso sherry butts that matured for three decades, creating a rich whisky with notes of fruit and honey. It was bottled around 2012 at 47.3% ABV.
