Balvenie is undefeated when it comes to cask finishing, and the Balvenie PortWood is considered by many to be Malt Master David C. Stewart’s finest creation. The expression was introduced in 1996 and has since won an array of awards. For this release, the whisky is first aged for over two decades to mellow the spirit and build character. It is then finished for a few months in port pipes, which add a wonderful complexity without overshadowing the single malt’s original characteristics. Balvenie Port Wood 21 Years Old has fruity and ripe raisin aromas on the nose, backed by a nutty dryness. You’ll find a remarkable complexity on the palate with a creamy texture and fruit, honey and spice notes. The finish is long, gentle and nutty.
