Basil Hayden Sr. was one of Kentucky’s earliest distillers: he started his production in 1796, when the State of Kentucky was just four years old. His grandson, Raymond B. Hayden, named the famous brand Old Grand-Dad bourbon brand after him. When Jim Beam introduced a new small batch collection of Basil Hayden in 1992, they named it after this pioneer of Kentucky whiskey.
