Ben Nevis 23 Years Old The Single Malts of Scotland 1996 is a single cask whisky from the Ben Nevis distillery in the Scottish Highlands. It was distilled on 1 November 1996 and matured in hogshead #1750 for 23 years. On 25 August 2020 it was bottled at 53.8% by Elixir Distillers for their The Single Malts of Scotland range. Only 214 bottles have been released. The Ben Nevis distillery was founded in 1825 by Angus McDonnell, and was taken over a couple of years later by ‘Long John’ McDonald. He got this nickname thanks to his extraordinary height: 1.93m (or 6’4), which was quite a feat in the early 19th century. Coincidentally, Ben Nevis is also the highest mountain in the British Islands!
