The Whisky Jury has had great success with the previous bottlings of Ben Nevis. The bottle that kicked off the whole venture was a Ben Nevis 1995, and there have been two previous Ben Nevis 1996 bottlings before this Ben Nevis 24 Years Old The Whisky Jury 1996. The Ben Nevis distillery is named after Scotland’s tallest mountain, and was founded by a guy who may have been one of Scotland’s tallest men back in the day. Long John McDonald founded his distillery back in 1825 and was acquired by the Japanese company Nikka in 1989. It is well known for its 10 year old single malt but over the years there have been a few cask finishes, limited editions and independent bottlings, just like this one! The nose opens with notes of tobacco, raisins, fresh bread and walnuts and this develops into berries, orange and cooked apples. The mouth shows off the sherry flavours along with spices, chocolate, grapefruit and ginger. The finish is nice and long with licorice, chocolate and tobacco.
