Benriach was founded in 1898 but was one of the unfortunate casualties of the Pattison crash. Shortly after the stills were fired up the distilling was halted and Benriach was dry for over 60 years. The only thing that kept it going was the floor maltings, as Longmorn up the road continued to source malt from Benriach. They loved the malt so much they even built a little train to choof on down to Benriach and pick up the goods. When the 1960s rolled around it was decided to give Benriach a second go and the stills were fired up once again. It’s been going strong since as shown by this Benriach 17 Years Old Single Cask Bottling 1997 Cask #39950. Distilled in 1997, it was aged for 17 years before being bottled up in 2015. Only 192 bottles were produced so this is definitely a rare gem from the Benriach range.
