Benriach was founded by John Duff to capitalise on the whisky boom of the late 19th century. He’d already had great success in the whisky game with his other ventures but this time he didn’t have luck on his side. The distillery only ran for two years before the Pattison crash brought it crashing down. It would take over 60 years for Benriach’s stills to run again but this time luck was on their side. As you can see from this Benriach 19 Years Old Single Cask Bottling 1995 Cask #5957, Benriach mark 2 has proven very successful. This is a single cask bottling, limited release, aged for 19 years in Madeira Hogshead No. 5957. It has a nose of oak, raisin and honey. The palate has vanilla, nectarine, stewed apricot and pepper. The finish has a sprinkle of spice over dried fruit.
