Benriach 22 Years Old Peated Second Edition Finished in PX Casks is a limited-edition Benriach single malt, released in 2017 as part of the Wood Finish Series. The whisky was distilled from peated malted barley and initially matured in American oak casks. It was then finished in Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks, cleverly combining the distinct and contrasting aromas and flavours associated with richly peated malt whisky and the elegant sherry wood. Albariza is the name for the white soil with high chalk content typical for the Andalucia region in Southern Spain. This soil is ideal for the cultivation of sherry grapes. The nose of the Benriach 22 Years Old Peated Second Edition Finished in PX Casks reveals aromas of crisp candied peel, soft peach, ripe banana, Demerara sugar, rounded peat smoke and gentle oak spices. On the palate you’ll find notes of peat smoke, barley, citrus zest, white pepper, fresh ginger, caramelised orchard fruits and dried apricots, which develop into a rich, grassy wood smoke finish.
