It’s been known for years that playing music for plants helps them grow better, but did you know the same is true for whiskey? In collaboration with late master distiller Dave Pickerell, the Metallica launched a series of whiskeys called Blackened. Blackened American Whiskey is a blend of straight whiskeys that were finished while ‘listening’ to a playlist of Metallica songs. The sound waves of the music were broadcast into the black brandy casks and the low vibrations caused the wood to release more flavor into the whisky. This process is called ‘sonic enhancement’. Blackened Metallica Whiskey Batch 112 was created to commemorate the release of Metallica’s live album S&M2, which was recorded during a performance in San Francisco in honor of the 20th anniversary of the band’s legendary 1999 album S&M. A playlist featuring 17 songs from the S&M2 album was used during the whiskey’s finishing process. This limited-edition whiskey was bottled at 45% ABV.
