Blair Athol has made a comeback, with the first official bottling since 2003, as well as the distillery’s first appearance in Diageo’s annual Special Releases. The whisky matured for 23 years in ex-bodega European oak butts, and was bottled in 2017, at a cask strength of 58.4%. On the nose, Blair Athol 23 Years Old Diageo Special Releases 1993 has complex aromas of honey, peanut brittle, creme brulee, baked bananas, toffee, chocolate, raisins, tarragon and mint. The palate is rich and full-bodied, revealing sweet and nutty notes of treacle toffee, fruit cake, raisins, liquorice, candied lemon zest, baked apples, warming spices and leafy herbs. The finish is long and creamy with lingering mint creams, caster sugar, oak spice, fresh mint and some smoke.
