Bowmore 16 Years Old Limited 1989 Edition is a limited-edition bottling of Bowmore single malt. It is the first in a series of three vintage Bowmore whiskies matured in different cask types. The whisky is a vatting of 134 predominantly ex-bourbon casks which were filled in 1989 and matured for 16 years. It was bottled in 2005 at a cask strength of 51.8%. Bowmore is the oldest distillery on Islay. It was officially founded in 1779 by the local merchant David Simpson, although it is believed Simpson was already distilling whisky at the site for about a decade previously. The distillery’s current owners, Morrison Bowmore Distillers Ltd., took over the company in 1963. Morrison Bowmore became a subsidiary of the Japanese distilling giant Suntory in 1994. Fun fact: Bowmore is one of the three remaining Islay distilleries that still operates its own traditional floor maltings! Bottle and box are in perfect condition.
