Bowmore Mizunara Cask Finish is a Bowmore single malt finished in rare Mizunara oak casks from Japan. This was the first time that Mizunara casks have been exported from Japan, as well as the first Scotch single malt to be finished in Japanese oak. A range of distillates from the 1990s was selected for this experiment, each between 15 and 25 years old. The whisky was bottled in 2015 at 53.9% ABV. Mizunara is one of the rarest and trickiest oak types used to make casks. Mizunara trees are extremely slow-growing, and its wood is rather porous, making the casks prone to leaking. Beam Suntory, the parent company of Bowmore, only produces about 100 Mizunara casks a year. Only 2000 bottles of Bowmore Mizunara Cask Finish have been released.
