Braeval is the newer name for the old Braes of Glenlivet. The name was changed back in 1994 so that whisky fans wouldn’t get mixed up with the Glenlivet brand. After they got the new name they got a nice, shiny renovation. Reopening in 2008, it is now one of the most modern whisky distilleries in all of Scotland. In fact, it only requires one employee to run the processes which pump out 4 million litres of the good stuff each year! Most of those litres end up in blends under the Chivas label, but those champions at Hunter Laing have sniffed out a single cask for this extremely rare bottling. Distilled in 1989, it was aged for 30 years before being bottled in 2019 at a delicious natural cask strength of 54.7% ABV. On the nose you’ll find nuts and fresh fruits like strawberry. The fresh fruit morphs into stewed fruits on the palate with a round, creamy chocolate quality. The finish is long with a deep fruit quality. Only 236 bottles were released so there aren’t many drops to go round!
