Brora 30 Years Old 9th Release 2010 is a fantastic bottling from the closed Brora distillery. This bottle was released in 2010, as part of Diageo’s annual Special Releases. The whisky was distilled just a few years before Brora closed. It matured for 30 years, and is bottled at a cask strength of 54.3%. Brora was first included in the Diageo Special Releases in 2002, and is always a highly-anticipated release due to the distillery’s dwindling stocks. Brora 30 Years Old Diageo Special Releases 2010, is rather less peaty than usual, allowing the rich fruit notes to shine. The nose displays aromas of candied peel, light vanilla, soft smoke, almonds, honey, wet stones and cinnamon, as well as some gentle farmyard notes. The palate starts out soft and honeyed with vanilla, cream toffee and liquorice. It then becomes more powerful, with a stronger peat note backed by wood smoke, iodine and salt. The finish is long on ripe fruit, salt and a whiff of smoke.
