The third edition of Bruichladdich’s 20-year-old single malt. The whisky was distilled in 1985 and initially matured in bourbon casks. It was then finished in Malmsey Madeira hogsheads, and bottled in 2005 at 46%. The Islay distillery Bruichladdich was founded in 1881 by the brothers William, John and Robert, members of the dynastic whisky family Harvey. At the time, Bruichladdich was a state-of-the-art distillery, much different from the other distilleries on Islay that were all located in old farm buildings. Bruichladdich still uses most of its original machinery today, having avoided the modernization of the 20th century – no computers are used in the distilling process, everything is manually controlled by the employees.
