This 16-year-old Cabernet Franc Aged After 8 Years whiskey is part of Buffalo Trace’s Experimental Collection. The distillery is constantly experimenting to make their whiskey even better, and once in a blue moon they release some of these hidden gems. Buffalo Trace Experimental Collection Cabernet Franc Aged After 8 Years was distilled in February 1990 and first matured in American white oak for 8 years and 1 month. It was then transferred to a French oak cabernet barrel, where it aged for another 8 years. The whiskey was bottled on 26 February 2007 at 45% ABV. Because it was finished in a wine cask, the whiskey is officially not allowed to be called a bourbon.
