If you’re a whisky fan, one thing that should not be missing on your bucket list is a visit to Islay. On the north-eastern coast of the rugged island, overlooking the mountains of the Isle of Jura, lies the Bunnahabhain distillery. Fans can visit the distillery’s iconic Warehouse 9 and try Bunnahabhain whiskies straight from the cask. To allow people who are not able to make the trip to Islay the opportunity to experience Bunnahabhain as straight from the cask as possible, the distillery launched a cask strength edition of their classic 12-year-old single malt. Bunnahabhain 12 Years Old Cask Strength 2021 Edition is the first release in this new annual series. The whisky is distilled in small batches and aged in ex-sherry casks. It is floral and sweet on the nose, with aromas of dark berries, citrus and toasted oak followed by hints of vanilla and cinnamon. On the palate you’ll find creamy chocolate, dried fruits and a balanced nuttiness give way to cloves, nutmeg and salty sea spray. The finish is sweet with lingering cherries and wood spice.
