A single cask bottling from the Islay distillery Caol Ila, released by Gordon & MacPhail as part of the Connoisseurs Choice range. The whisky was distilled in 1988 and matured in refill American hogshead #1100 for 32 years. It was bottled on 27 January 2021 at a cask strength of 52.7%. Caol Ila is the largest distillery on Islay. It was founded in 1846 by Hector Henderson, a distillery owner from Glasgow. Caol Ila is Gaelic for ‘Sound of Islay’ referring to the distillery’s location which overlooks, you’ve guessed it, the Sound of Islay. Caol Ila is currently in the hands of Diageo, and the distillery’s spirit is a key component of Diageo’s blends. Only 222 bottles of Caol Ila 1988 Gordon & Macphail 32 Years Old have been released.
