The Caroni Distillery in Trinidad was a famous producer of heavy rum, but after financial troubles in the late 20th century, it was shut down in 2002. Luckily, in 2004 rum expert Luca Gargano stumbled upon a large stock of vintage rum in the distillery’s old warehouses. His independent bottling company Velier started releasing the much sought-after rum. Caroni 1998 Special Edition 4th Release Dayanand ‘Yunkoo’ Balloon is a blend of 6 casks from 1998 that fully matured in Trinidad. It was bottled in 2020 at 68.3%. The rum is part of the Caroni Employees series, which pays homage to the employees who put in many years of work at the distillery. This bottle features Dayanand ‘Yunkoo’ Balloon, who worked at the Caroni Distillery for 10 years. Only 1251 bottles of Caroni 1998 Special Edition 4th Release Dayanand ‘Yunkoo’ Balloon were released.
