The Caroni Distillery in Trinidad was a famous producer of heavy rums in the 20th century, but it was closed in 2002 after the island’s sugar-growing industry collapsed. Two years later, Italian rum expert Luca Gargano discovered a large stock of vintage rum in the distillery’s old warehouses and started bottling it at his independent bottling company Velier. Caroni 2000 Special Edition 4th Release Basdeo ‘Dicky’ Ramsarran consists of 6 casks from 2000 that fully matured in Trinidad. The rum was bottled in 2020 at 64.3% as part of the Caroni Employees series, which pays tribute to the distillery’s workers. This bottle features Basdeo ‘Dicky’ Ramsarran, who worked at the distillery for 20 years. Only 1251 bottles of Caroni 2000 Special Edition 4th Release Basdeo ‘Dicky’ Ramsarran were released.
